Who are Secular Franciscans?
Secular Franciscans are men and women, married or single, who strive to live their lives according to the inspiration of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. Franciscan spirituality consists of several key charisms or gifts: joy, peace, respect for others (especially the poor), the importance of dialogue, and living in community (that is, fraternity). Secular Franciscans fulfill their vocation by bringing their Franciscan charisms into their homes, their workplaces, and their community.
Who makes up the National Fraternity?
The National Fraternity of Canada is comprised of regional fraternities in Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Eastern Canada and their associated local fraternities.
Uniquely, if one is a member of a local fraternity, automatically one also has membership in a regional fraternity and ultimately, the national fraternity. Collectively across Canada there are currently a total of 1,654 Secular Franciscans.
What is the primary purpose of the National Fraternity of Canada?
There are several key responsibilities for the National Fraternity:

- To animate and guide the life of the Secular Franciscan Order in Canada;
- To provide a voice and a face for Secular Franciscans within the Franciscan Family of Canada;
- On a national level, to highlight and promote the Secular Franciscan Order in Canada;
- To ensure the spiritual growth of Secular Franciscans in Canada;
- To foster communion, cooperation, and collaboration among Secular Franciscan Fraternities in Canada;
- To represent Secular Franciscans at the national level in their association with church and/or civil organizations; and
- To be the voice of Canadian Secular Franciscans at the International level, in Canada, and in the rest of the world.
